There's no denying it: It's COLD out there! The fish are still there; you just have to know where they hang out to stay warm.

This cold snap will definitely send fish (especially trout) into deeper holes. If you can find the considerably deeper spots in the marsh, rivers, and around the islands, the fish will likely be in an around those areas. Go to deep spots and slow your presentation way down. These fish are no different than we are. They will get out and do things (feed) during the warmest parts of the day. There is no need to set the alarm clock early. Fish the warmest parts of the day for comfort and productivity.
The sheepshead bite has been great. We have been catching these cold weather critters from Bayou Caddy to Pass Christian. The bigger swings in the tide seems to trigger the better bites. The redfish have been getting better also. We have big north winds coming, and that will likely pull even more fish deep out of the marsh when it drains the water out. We have been relying heavily on the live and dead shrimp to get the most action on the reds. Safety should always be the first priority on any fishing trip, but even more so in colder temps. Don’t forget to let people know where you’re going and when you expect to be back. If you have cell service, it never hurts to check in a few times during your trip. Have fun, be safe, and MERRY CHRISTMAS to ALL!!! Enjoy this feature?
