It might be getting cold, but the fishing is still good if you know where to look! Captain Sonny says a later start, big tide, and live bait are the keys to making the best of your fishing trip.

We have seen some stellar sheepshead fishing nearshore. Since the bait shops are still carrying live shrimp, this has greatly increased productivity. I will say that the times we have been on the water with little to no tidal movement, the fishing has been poor at best. The bigger the swing in the tide, the better the bite. If the big tidal movements are during the warmer midday times, the bite has been even better. The couple of days we have dialed in the redfish, it has been all or nothing. Meaning, if we catch a couple of small “rat reds,” the bigger reds have been lingering nearby. It has definitely been worth it to hang around and work the area thoroughly. Since we tag and release our smaller reds, it has been a great way to pass the time until we dial in the bigger fish. Please be safe with these cold fronts. Layer up and bring extra clothes. Leaving later in the day is a smart play as well. Happy Holidays! Enjoy this feature?
