Spring is now in full swing, and the fish know it! This time of year, it’s about near-shore fishing – and if you think that always means small fry, you’ve got another thing coming.

We have begun seeing a few trout down in the Louisiana Marsh. Looks like we have a little cold front coming through this week, so we are not sure if that’s going to mess up the trout fishing.
 
This is typical of March, so it’s not a huge deal. Most of our “Spring Break” trips have been close to land. The near-shore fishing has been very good.

The best thing going the last week has been the puppy drum, and sheepshead. We have had a couple days of some really good red fishing, and that should just keep getting better and better.

A mixed bag of sheepshead, trout, redfish and ground mullet. Fishing with Capt Leoni out of Shaggy's charter dock In Pass Harbor.

 
There has been a big push of the gigantic black drum on all the reefs and bridges. We don’t typically keep them, but man are they a brutal fight on light tackle. Some of these fish can get around 40 pounds! We usually take a picture and let these big critters swim away.

The salinity has been steadily going up, and hopefully it will continue that way. The fishing should just keep getting better and better.
