Despite cooling water temperatures, local fishing is still hot for warm-water species - and we're seeing the return of cool-water trout as well.

A lot of our attention has been focused on redfish and puppy drum. We have been seeing the slot-sized redfish (18-30 inch) on just about every shoreline we fish, from Pass Christian to Lake Borgne. The lower tides in the morning have made it easier to spot detailing fish. However, some days all you can do is watch them, when they are way back in the shallow ponds and bays. If there is plenty of food for them, typically they won’t go far. We have been going back to the areas we are seeing them with the high tide and doing well. We are still seeing tripletail almost every day. The good news is that most of the fish we are seeing are legal, and sometimes very big. Every day the water temperatures drop, it signals these fish to head out into the warmer waters of the Gulf of Mexico. If you’re looking to get into some tripletail action, don’t wait too long.
The big sharks, bull reds, and jack crevalles were all in good numbers this past week. They will also thin out a little with the cooling water temperatures. All in all, fishing should be very good for the next month or so, and we are loving these cool mornings!!! Enjoy this feature?
