Deadlines loom for two very cool creative competitions. August 15th is the last day to submit artwork for the Shoofly Awareness Campaign art competition, while September 10th is the deadline for a one-act play competition sponsored by the Bay St. Louis Little Theatre.
Here at the Shoofly Magazine, we're sponsoring a cool art contest to help publicize our name change from the Fourth Ward Cleaver (which started as a neighborhood online newsletter) to the Shoofly, after the Bay St. Louis landmark.
Artists who are residents (or part-time residents) of Hancock, Harrison and Jackson County are eligible.
First prize winner gets a night at the fabulous Monteleone Hotel in the New Orleans French Quarter, breakfast at Criollo the next morning and a $200 gift certificate from Bay Life Gifts and Gallery. The top ten entries will be displayed for the month and offered for sale (30% commission) at Bay Life Gifts, 111 Main Street, Bay St. Louis. The contest will be judged by Malcolm White, director of the Mississippi Arts Commission! Full details here! The deadline also looms (September 10) for submissions of one-act plays by Mississippi residents, sponsored by Mississippi Writes Original (MWO). The winners's work will be featured as a cohesive collection onstage at the historic Bay St. Louis Little Theatre April 29, 2017 in an MWO event dedicated to original Mississippi drama.
