Rum Kitchen
Open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily 324 U.S. 90, Waveland 467-9099 John “Chappy” Chapman, a familiar restaurateur on the Coast and beyond, has just opened his Rum Kitchen at 324 U.S. 90 in Waveland. That’s in the old Kmart shopping center location. Rum Kitchen is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. serving lunch and dinner “so far,” Chappy said in a quick phone conversation. “We’re still doing the soft opening.” The large menu is full of the flavors of the Caribbean: lime, ginger, coconut etc., and features loads of tacos and seafood. There are a dozen+ tacos (jerk chicken, duck, shrimp and more) that come individually or in a combo with sides. The "Me Hearty" Plates include a rack of lamb, grilled Mahi Mahi and red curry shrimp. For-the-table items include pulled pork nachos, avocado mango dip, fried plantains and seafood fritters. Salad offerings go from a simple green one to one topped with marinated brisket or jerk chicken. Desserts include bread pudding and coconut rum cake. Two recent daily specials during the restaurant’s shake down were a half-pound Cuban hamburger topped with black beans and a jerk chicken wrap, both with regular or sweet potato fries. There’s live music this Friday and Saturday starting at 7 p.m. Comments are closed.
