Now you don’t even have to leave home to attend City Council Meetings in Bay St. Louis.
The city’s Facebook Page now streams meetings in real time as they’re occurring. Better yet, the videos stay on the page, so if you can't "make a meeting," you can check them out later.
The camera doesn't allow all the council members to be seen at the same time and you'll bet only a side view of those speaking to the council. You’ll also want to use earbuds or earphones to hear everything clearly. But it’s an huge step forward in city transparency, while encouraging citizen participation. Property owners who live out of town and part-time residents will be able to keep up with critical city happenings too.
To add to the entertainment value, comments go up on the Facebook page in real time as the meeting is streamed. You can even share the broadcast with FB friends too. If you’d like to up the ante on citizen participation, click onto the email addresses of any official below and send them your thoughts or offer suggestions on any issue. Of course, you'll want to demonstrate good citizen skills by being respectful and courteous, even of those with different viewpoints. Butter the popcorn and check it out. It’s not only interesting to watch (even fun at times), the issues being discussed impact residents’ lives and livelihoods – sometimes in a major way. Bay St. Louis City Council Members
