Dirt Cheap and Tractor Supply Open

Two new powerhouse retailers open up in Bay-Waveland this week, giving local bargain hunters plenty to celebrate.

 Two big business openings to report this week, much to the liking of local shoppers.

No more going to Long Beach, Gulfport or Slidell. Dirt Cheap has landed in Waveland. Bargain hunters were lined up early Wednesday for the grand opening of Dirt Cheap at 344 Highway 90 in the building that formerly was home to K-mart).

The aptly named Dirt Cheap buys overstocks and liquidations, out of season goods, custom returns, and merchandise from bankruptcies and closeouts from manufacturers and other retails and then sells everything at prices that seem impossibly low.

Housewares, small appliances and furniture are among the goods sold at 40 to 50 percent off.

And the selection is enormous: thousands of pairs of shoes and items of clothing are among a mountain of merchandise that changes weekly along with the markdowns. 

From auto accessories to underwear, Dirt Cheap has got it. The store is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

The much anticipated Tractor Supply  Co. at 1220 Highway 90 will have its grand opening on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 10 a.m. The store is now open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. It’s the newest location among the more than 1,600 stores that make up  the largest operator of rural lifestyle retail stores in the U.S.

​Tractor Supply does indeed sell tractor parts but if you look beyond the name you’ll find toys, shoes, porch swings and gas grills, indoor and outdoor furniture, cat and dog supplies, lawn and garden supplies, clothing from sweats and scrubs, goat feed. And a good deal more.

There’s even a pet wash room with two sinks and two blow dryers that you can use for $9.99, including the soap. “We have the soap and everything you need but you can bring your own,” said store manager Emmaline Perry. “”It’s been used quite a bit these last few days.” One of the early customers brought a Husky for a bath, she said.
