“We’ve gutted it and knocked down a few walls but kept the same footprint. It’s about halfway done,” Atwell said. While work is going on in the restaurant space, the retailers in front of the building have not missed a beat, he said.
The partners hope to open the restaurant in mid to late January, offering the same menu and amenities as the Gulfport, Hattiesburg and Ocean Springs locations. That includes a full menu of award-winning meats dry-rubbed and smoked in-house, plus sandwiches, wings, seafood, appetizers and sides. Murky Waters also has a full bar featuring craft beers plus a catering menu.
The three owners are Long Beach natives and old friends who have enjoyed coming to the Bay for years. They’ve been looking for a place here for about three years but didn’t find a suitable space until the Main Street building became available. The new restaurant will open daily at 11 am and have seating for around 100 customers. Tables will be spaced safely apart and the wait staff will wear masks, Atwell said.
About 25 to 30 employees will be hired. “It’ll be similar to Ocean Springs with a beautiful, wood grain bar,” he said. Live music will be available at some point in the next year. For hours and more, check out the Murky Waters website.
