The Waveland shop, which opened on Mother’s Day weekend, is her first storefront, which she opened with help from Boots to Business, an SBA program available to service members and spouses transitioning to civilian life.
The shop has a kitchen, counter space, pastry cases, a cold case and a cake decorating area. Every Tuesday, Susan and daughter Hailey Muehe spend all day making batters and icing to get ready to open each Wednesday.
“Every week we do something different,” Susan said, “And every week we have a different cupcake menu.” Susan’s Sassy Sweets offers gourmet cupcakes, custom cakes, cookies, cake pops, pies, banana pudding, cheesecake, Key lime pie, eclairs, macaroons, lemon tarts and pecan tarts.. Malts, milk shakes and coffee are also available. And everything is made in-house.
Susan has been attracting customers through Facebook since 2012, baking at home and delivering her cakes for weddings, birthdays and other celebrations to the surrounding areas.
She is optimistic that the shop’s ribbon cutting at 4pm July 28 with the Hancock Chamber will draw even more people to her new location. For the special occasion, Susan’s Sassy Sweets will be open from 2 pm to 6pm.
