Susan Allen likes to mix things up - literally and otherwise - at her recently opened Susan’s Sassy Sweets shop in the Colson Building in Waveland. Mix up as in cake and cupcake batter, cookie dough and milk shakes and malts. And mix up as in changing the menu of baked goods and other tempting sweets she and her small crew make from scratch.
Susan has been baking for years out of home kitchens at various duty stations that her husband’s 25-year Navy career took the family. He’s currently stationed in Meridian while Susan is home in Carriere. |

The shop has a kitchen, counter space, pastry cases, a cold case and a cake decorating area. Every Tuesday, Susan and daughter Hailey Muehe spend all day making batters and icing to get ready to open each Wednesday.
She is optimistic that the shop’s ribbon cutting at 4pm July 28 with the Hancock Chamber will draw even more people to her new location. For the special occasion, Susan’s Sassy Sweets will be open from 2 pm to 6pm.
