Krewe of Real People Parade 2018

2/14/2018

The Krewe of Real People - a BSL tradition - morphed into the Krewe of Diamonds twelve years ago.  In 2018, it was  Krewe of Real People - Next Generation!  Known as the only predominantly African-American parade on the Gulf Coast on Mardi Gras, it gets everyone out and celebrating the big day.

THE thing to do in Bay St. Louis on the day before Mardi Gras is catch (or be part of!) the Mystic Krewe of the Seahorse parade. This charming golf cart parade is always a hoot and gets larger each year.  Prize catches?  Decorated oyster shells by the the Raw Oyster Marching Club - whose founder, Martha Whitney Butler, served double duty as Seahorse Queen for 2018!

Picture
The 39th annual Krew of Knights Mardi Gras Parade is made up of student, teachers and supporters of Holy Trinity Catholic School in historic Bay St. Louis. Each year, it meets up with the royal court of Nereids.  Proclamations of good cheer were issued by Bay St. Louis Mayor Mike Favre and the proceedings ended with a lemonade toast.

Krewe of Nereids Parade 2018

All parades are great, but we’re pretty sure the all-woman Nereids Krewe can safely call its event the Superbowl of Hancock County parades. Nereids is 51 years old this season and and looks lovelier every year!

Krewe of Kids Parade 2018

2/3/2018

It's too cute for words, but this parade is also lovely on a deeper level - it starts out at Dunbar Village assisted living home with children handing beads to elders who are enlivened by all the excitement.

The king and queen of Dunbar Village toast the King and Queen of the Kids in a lovely passing of the Mardi Gras torch from one generation to another.
