The 100 Men Hall kicked off its “Ancestors Weekend” on Friday, June 17, with the unveiling of an interactive sculpture, Use your WORDS, Stomp out RACISM, donated by artist Erica Larkin Gaudet. An 8’ x 8’ mural, We Are Our Ancestor’s Wildest Dreams, by artist Adrienne Brown David, also was unveiled inside the Hall. After the dedications, celebrants gathered on the lawn of the 100 Men Hall for African drumming and dancing with Baba Luther and Mama Jamila from Congo Square. The evening was a wonderful kickoff of Juneteenth weekend, and the joy of those dancing and drumming was palpable! - by Brenda Comer |
