The great Dr. John described James Booker as "the best black, gay, one-eyed junkie piano genius New Orleans has ever produced." On December 3-5, the 100 Men Hall celebrated his music and his life with tributes by local blues and gospel musicians. But it was more - it was a celebration of Mississippi's musical heritage, of which the 100 Men Hall is a fascinating part. From spoken word, to organ, to piano, to gospel, to a drag brunch, this event showcased the best local talent in the area, while raising much-needed funds for the 100 Men Hall itself.
