On Sunday, May 24, BSL residents who were lucky enough to get a ticket for Cedric Burnside at 100 Men Hall enjoyed a starry night they won't soon forget. The twice-Grammy-nominated blues guitarist and singer/songwriter brought his special blend of North Mississippi Hill Country blues.
As Burnside's website explains, "Often, it leads with extended riffs that become sentences or pleas or exclamations... Riffs disappear behind and become one with the singer’s voice... and sometimes they become the only voice, saying what the singer cannot conjure the words for." Frogs sang the harmonies in nearby fields, and all was right in the world. - Photos by Ellis Anderson |
