Like a karmic slap in the face, Hurricane Ida roared through south Mississippi and Louisiana on the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. The Mississippi Gulf Coast was largely spared from the wrath of Hurricane Ida, which veered slightly west of its predicted path.

​But what is great for Mississippi was absolutely devastating for our neighbors in Louisiana. Severe flooding, catastrophic wind damage, and lack of electricity and water have made the region unlivable – and largely unreachable.

As Hurricane Ida begins to tear through Southern Louisiana on August 29, 2021, its impacts are already apparent more than 100 miles away on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

After Ida

Local impacts included flooding and moderate wind damage, but the Mississippi coast was spared the fiercest affects of Ida.
