Gloomy skies and persistent rain into the afternoon did not dampen the spirits of the Krewe of Nereids, Hancock County's oldest Carnival organization, or the parade goers that lined Highway 90 for the party of the season. As they say, the show must go on - and while the rain delayed, it did not get in the way of a rowdy good time for all!
The all-female Krewe of Nereids was founded in 1966 by a group of 96 charter members. Their first ball was held the following year, a modest affair held in a local gymnasium. By contrast, today's ball is so large that it's held in the Mississippi Coast Coliseum, and the parade is the largest in Hancock County. - photos by Lionel Haynes, Jr. If you're in a photo, you're welcome to save these Internet-sized images from our 15 Minutes photo galleries onto your own computer or device.
