 The Eyes Have It
showcasing local photographers |
In this series of photo essays, the Shoofly Magazine showcases the work of local photographers. Their only instructions? Show us the coast through your lens.
This month we feature the work of photographer Gregg Martel, a member of the Shoofly Magazine team!
Gregg moved to Bay St. Louis in 2008 for an opportunity at Stennis Space Center, then retired here. He'd been living in a small fishing village on the Chesapeake Bay, Shadyside, Maryland, a place where he was also able to enjoy being near and out on the water.
Gregg's been shooting "since I was a kid," and as a youth, even had a black and white darkroom set up in his folk's house. These days he shoots with both a Cannon and his phone, which he admits "sometimes shoots better than my camera."
The best thing about retirement? The photographer has more time to devote to shooting images.
