Over the past 29 years, the monthly art walk has become one of the most popular events in the region. Old Town stays lively all day, with many merchants and restaurants offering specials.

The pace picks up from 4–7 pm, when gallery openings and live music keep the streets humming with activity.

Buccaneer State Park in Waveland continues to be the most popular among Mississippi’s 24 state parks in revenue, visitation and occupancy – and things are about to get even busier.

New, larger beachfront quality camping spaces, new upscale “glamping” campsites and a fun-filled “Splash Zone” for the youngest visitors to the water park are already attracting interest at the popular destination.

This year marks the 100 Men Hall’s centennial, quite a feat for a building that has survived the repressive Jim Crow era, segregation and Hurricanes Camille, Betsy, Katrina and Zeta, just a few of the forces over the past century that seemed destined to destroy it. Built in 1922, the Hall still stands as a beacon for African American ingenuity and survival skills.

In 2018, I bought the Hall and resurrected the nonprofit that was first registered in 1894 by twelve civic-minded men. It would have been easier to create a new one, goodness knows, but that would not have served the Hall’s narrative.
