The pandemic has delayed or cancelled virtually everything on the calendar, including fun celebrations like Pirate Day in the Bay, the popular fundraiser which was rescheduled from May to September 11-12. Last year the Mystic Krewe of the Seahorse donated more than $5,000 to local Hancock County charities from their various events.
In the meantime, feel free to release your inner pirate, dress the part and snap some Scallywag Selfies to be featured in the Shoofly Magazine!
The Almost Non-Existent Contest Rules:
2. Include names and contact info. Deadline is 5pm (CST), May 23.
3. Best 50 will be published in a special Shoofly Magazine photo album.
4. The contest will be judged by Instagram stars, the Traveler Broads.
They'll name first, second and third place winners. Winners will also be featured on the cover of our magazine! There are also some cool trophies in the works!
5. You don't have to live in Bay St. Louis or be a member of the Mystic Krewe of Seahorse to enter!
This is a fun way to stay connected, show off the city’s celebratory side and have something to look forward to when things start to settle down.
The selfie contest gets the royal thumbs up from the leaders of the Mystic Krewe of the Seahorse this year: Captain Longbeard, portrayed by Albert Ghergich, and Noel Allen as Lady Claiborne. Starting this year, the captain and first mate replace the Mardi Gras-style king and queen figures with a more pirate-centric Longbeard and Lady Claiborne.
“The Gulf Coast has a rich history of interacting with pirates, and we like to celebrate that,” said Ghergich. “Lady Claiborne and I have designed a soon-to-be coveted trophy for the selfie contest first place winner.” Ghergich called the selfie contest “a great opportunity for everyone to release their inner pirate as you go about your normal daily activities.”
Whether you’re doing housework or sitting on the beach, you can costume up and "pirate in place," he added.
As you might expect with pirates, the selfie contest has few – or really – no rules except that your selfie must be taken during May 2020 and be sent with names and contact info to publisher@bslshoofly.com by 5 pm on May 23. You don’t even have to live in Bay St. Louis or be a member of the Mystic Krewe of the Seahorse to enter. Pirates from across the country and around the world are invited!
The Best 50 photos will be published in a special Shoofly Magazine photo album. Judging the entries will be Instagram stars, the Traveler Broads. They will pick First, Second and Third Place winners, who will also be featured on the cover of the magazine.
