The fishing has gone from good to great in last the week or so. We have gotten better weather, cleaner water, and the shrimp are really pushing through. The hard-working men and women at the bait shops have been keeping tanks full of beautiful live shrimp and croakers.

Since the winds have been giving us a little break, we have been running to the eastern side of the Louisiana Marsh. Most days we have seen huge shrimp jumping out of the water, trying to avoid the big hungry trout underneath them. When this happens, you can throw your car keys in the water and catch fish. We are throwing live shrimp, artificial baits(Matrix, Vudu,, H&H cocahoes) near the jumping shrimp and diving birds. If you get near them, it’s almost a bite every cast.
With so much activity, the bull reds and sharks are lurking around too. We’ve had a few groups just want to target them. I’ve been saving my smaller white trout and soaking them near the feeding frenzy. Sometime it’s a shark, sometimes it’s a bull red, but it’s always a fun fight.
Our guides that have been fishing in close are seeing tons of action on the nearshore reefs and in the Bay. The trout are usually smaller but there’s a lot of action.
We have been seeing triple tails almost every day. This first wave of them is usually made up of smaller fish, but it’s a fantastic sign of things to come. Get a big live shrimp near a triple tail, and just hang on!
The heat has been no joke. Please bring plenty of water and sports drinks. Soak a rag in ice water and put it on your neck; it helps.
It looks like it’s gonna be a great spring, so please get out and enjoy our amazing Mississippi Gulf Coast. As always, have fun and be safe.
