This past week was an absolute blast. We always get a big push of kiddos before the school year starts. The bite going on right now is perfect for the youngsters.
The speckled trout have been much better in the early morning. On the good weather days, we are fishing oyster reefs or man-made reefs with live shrimp or croakers. On the last few trips the bites have slowed with this heat. Luckily the triple tails have been steadily coming in. We are seeing a good amount of small ones and a couple of big ones. |

The big fish have been the best thing going. The bull reds, sharks and jack crevalle have been a real treat. The amount of speed, strength, and pure rage these fish have is unbelievable. We almost always photograph, tag and release these big fellas, but man, they are fun to do battle with. Just about anything big will work for bait. White trout, mullet, big croakers, pogies – they all work. We have been using very large baits. The massive sail cats have been brutal, so the bigger baits are a little tougher for them to steal.
These pop-up storms have been a real issue, so please keep your eye on the weather. The fishing has been good everywhere, so if the forecast is sketchy, stay close to shore and always have an exit to safety.
As always, have fun and be safe.
