Despite the brutal winds we’ve had almost all of April, the speckled trout have started showing up. Also happy to report, Capt Kenny spotted a triple tail south of Pass Christian on 4-19-22. I am hopeful that we are headed into a fantastic spring.
The main thing to look for is bait. Whether you’re targeting fish at Isle Au Pitre in the Biloxi Marsh (Louisiana), near Bayou Caddy, or off Bay St Louis, always look for bait. It may be shrimp and diving birds, or mullet jumping, or showering pogies – when you find the bait, you’ll almost always find the fish. |

As temperatures warm up, you’ll start seeing baitfish the early morning hours. Like us, they prefer the cooler temps to the midday heat.
Another good way to find bait is visiting local bait shops! Our windy April has made some tough work for these folks. If you are lucky enough to get a bucket of shrimp or minnows, please be courteous to the bait shop folks. A simple please and thank-you goes a long way. We also give our bait shop people a tip with every purchase. Trust me, they deserve it.
Recently, we have seen the Marine Resources and Coast Guard people at the launches and on the water. They are there to make sure everyone stays safe, so please make sure all of your fishing licenses and safety gear are up to date.
As always, have fun and be safe.
