Voting Day - Primaries

EIGHT important local races will be decided in the August 4th Republican Primary (or the primary run-offs). 

Put away that cynicism, find out about the candidates and then go do your American thing.  It's fast and easy and in local elections, ONE VOTE CAN CHANGE EVERYTHING. 

Check out sample ballots, district maps and a new Online Forum for local candidates - where they had an opportunity to introduce themselves and answer tough questions.  You can even check out job descriptions and salaries!

Please put away those cell phones while you're driving and watch for all the little ones while they're coming and going from school!  They're going to be excited too, and jumping around like caffeinated bunnies, so you'll need to be on extra alert.

Two Hot Spot businesses are featured each month.  For August, the Hot Spot light falls on Identity Vintage (131 Main Street) and Social Chair (201 Main Street)!

Old Town's Second Saturday Artwalk has been a favorite regional event for the past twenty years.  Each month throughout the year, visitors and locals alike enjoy art show openings, shop/restaurant specials and live music.  The atmosphere is festive, casual and family-friendly. 

During the day, Old Town's hopping, while between 4 -8pm special events kick off.

They are a super groovy, soul/R&B group.  He plays B-3.  Big D plays guitar for John Cleary, Bonnie Raitt and many others.  This will be a uber-cool dance party!

Tickets may be purchased online at www.savemyplacems.com or at the Biloxi Visitor’s Center, Randolph School and LaPointe-Krebs House on the day of the tour.
 
Guests will receive a Save My Place Journal as a memento of the day.  In addition, guests will receive a commemorative postcard at each site they visit.

Celebrate Mississippi’s many preservation victories following Hurricane Katrina.  Twenty-three historic places from Bay Saint Louis to Pascagoula will be open for tours and conversation about restoration and renewal ten years after the devastating storm.

Creative works responding to the Katrina disaster will be featured in this multi-media exhibit.  Opening reception will include refreshments and musical entertainment by Cynthia Chen.

Artists, poets, photographers, crafters may submit up to three jpegs to the juried show: SOUTHERN PHOENIX, no later than August 19th @ 5:00PM. 

There is no  fee to enter.  Simply e-mail up to three  jpeg images of your Katrina-related works to [email protected].  Please include your name, telephone number, and dimensions of the work.
