Waveland Alderman Jeremy Burke welcomes in the New Year with news about the classic Nereids parade, the opening of the new Beacon Theater, a no-truck ordinance, and a recap of the year's achievements.
Lights, Camera, Action!
The long wait is finally over to have a movie theater again in Waveland. Beacon Theatres opened their doors for business on Friday, December 11. Beacon Theatre went through a complete top-to-bottom renovation on the former Cinema 4 and is now better than ever. The Beacon Theatre has new everything inside and will be a great addition to the Waveland business community.
Beacon Theatre is located at the 310 Highway 90 (behind McDonald's) and is open 7 days a week. For movie times visit Beacon Theatre website. No Trucks Ordinance
At the Wednesday, December 16 meeting I placed on the agenda an ordinance that will eliminate the through medium and heavy-duty trucks traffic on Arnold Street, Jeff Davis Avenue and Avenue B. The ordinance failed by a 2-3 vote with the "yeas" being Alderman Piazza and me. The Mayor and other board member had some concerns about the ordinance. I plan to amend the ordinance as it is written to address the concerns of the other Alderman and Mayor and will introduce the ordinance early this year.
Happy New Year!
