Waveland Wins USA Today Contest
USA Today announced on May 29th that Waveland is one of two winners in their Red, White and You contest. The Grand Prize is a Fourth of July celebration (including a fireworks display) valued at approximately $50,000, including food and entertainment.
Earlier in the year, entrants sent in 150 word essays explaining why their city was deserving of the grand prize. More than 2,600 entries were received. The winning entry for Waveland was written by Donna Estopinal. "Many people were forced to move away leaving their dreams behind to start over somewhere else," she wrote. "Those who stayed were determined to rebuild not just their homes but our beautiful city as well. Waveland is coming back stronger and better than before." Oroville, California was awarded the other grand prize. The other finalists were Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, Midland, Pennsylvania, and Platteville, Wisconsin. Read the complete article here. |
What's Up, Waveland?

Waveland Keeps on Growing
The Waveland building department continues to stay busy with current and new residents investing in Waveland. I’m happy to report that during the month of April, Waveland issued 53 building permits with a valuation of $572,067. Of the 53 building permits issued, 3 of the permits are for the building of new single family residences.

Construction Update
|
The Jeff Davis Avenue and Gulfside Sewage/Water Project has finally progressed to the much anticipated paving stage of the project. The contractor still has a number of tasks that need to be done before the project can be considered complete, but to see asphalt on the street is a sight that many thought would never happen.

Police Department

Another change that the Waveland Police Department is making, is physically moving the police station. In the next few weeks, the Waveland Police Department will be moving from their trailer on Coleman Avenue into a nicer - but still temporary home inside the Waveland Business Center on Coleman Avenue.
The City of Waveland decided to move the police station into a unit in the Waveland Business Center in order to give the police and court department much needed improved working conditions. I’m hoping that the permanent Waveland Police Station located on McLaurin Street (which is currently in litigation) will be completed sometime in 2016.
June Meeting Dates
301 Coleman Avenue at 6:30 PM.
